Introduction

I am an Adjunct Instructor of English at The City College of New York (CCNY) and an Academic Specialist (6th-8th Grade) at Harlem Children’s Zone. I am currently earning an M.A. in Language & Literacy at CCNY and hold a NYS initial teaching certificate in 7th-12th Grade Social Studies.

I write book reviews and recommendations, as well as literary analyses and think-pieces at The Word After.

My teaching began as a writing tutor at the Brooklyn College Learning Center, where I worked in a 1:1 setting with undergraduate and graduate students of all types, including ELL/ESL students and those with disabilities. In 2013, I also student taught in NYS public schools for a year under supervision to earn my teaching certification, and shortly after taught students pre-K through adulthood at a private learning center in Brooklyn. After two years, I was promoted to Director of Education at the private learning center, where I managed and designed educational programming according to student needs.

Currently, I work full-time Academic Specialist with the Harlem Children’s Zone, where I manage academic programming for middle school students at a local community center. I am studying for an MA in the Language and Literacy program at CCNY, as I am interested in understanding the written language in an in-depth and holistic way, both as a writer and a teacher. As an adjunct instructor at CCNY I have taught freshman composition to students with a varying range of abilities.

Having work with students of all ages, I am intrigued by the development of language and literacy over time, and how so much can influence style, skill, and success. My special interests include pedagogical philosophy, comparative and historical education, and adult learners with special needs.
